At 29 her to the General Assembly of International Council for Science (ICSU) in Maputo, Mozambique, held in late October 2008, a resolution was adopted on the formation of a new World Data System (WDS) at the International Council for Science (ICSU). This new World Data System (WDS) will replace the existing system of World Data Centers (WDCs) with ICSU and the Federation of Astronomical and Geophysical Evaluation Service.

These actions are the result of a priority assessment ICSU scientific data and information and subsequent recommendations of the Strategic Committee of ICSU with information and data.
