In Thursday, at the 7th of October 2008 on a special session «Emerging Technologies and Opportunities for Global Data Management and Exchange» with Professor Jean Bernard Minster at the head (co-chairman of World Data System Transmition Committee) in the scopes of the 21st International CODATA-08 conference «Scientific Information for Society — from Today to the Future» took place on the base of National Technical University of Ukraine «Kyiv Polytechnic Institute» from 5th till 8th of October 2008.

The Ukrainian Department of the World Data Center (UdWDC) was represented.

According to results of discussion a decision was made that UdWDC will join a new World Data System (WDS) that is created from former World Data Centers of International Council of the Science of Ukraine (ICSU) and the Service Federation for Analysis of Astronomical and Geophysical Data.

As there are no documents that regulate the activity of WDS members, WDC works according to the requirements of the former WDC Committee.
