International conference "Formation of the National Geospatial Data Infrastructure in the Context of Building a Digital Society"

World Data Center for Geoinformatics and Sustainable Development Igor Sikorsky KPI held an international conference "Formation of the National Geospatial Data Infrastructure in the Context of Building a Digital Society" on February 16, 2018, within the framework of the joint project of Vancouver Island University (Canada), Igor Sikorsky KPI and Taras Shevchenko KNU. "Laying the Foundation for a Spatial Data Infrastructure: Building Capacity within the Ukrainian Government to Support Sustainable Economic Growth."

The results of implementation of the educational project in the field of geographic information systems and geospatial data infrastructure in Ukraine were summed up during the conference. 153 students, which were representing 52 state organizations, received certification from Vancouver Island University during the project.

In total, the conference was attended by around 120 people, including representatives of the Canadian Embassy, Vancouver Island University, StateGeoCadastre, the Japanese project "Creation of a National Geospatial Data Infrastructure in Ukraine", sectoral and profile research and education organizations, course attenders. The work of the conference was started by Vice-rector on scientific and pedagogical work professor Sergey Sidorenko. The results of the project were summarized in the report of the project by director from the Canadian side, professor Michael Govorov. At the end of the conference there was held a round table on the topic "Potential of development of geospatial technologies in Ukraine", during which a lively discussion of experts took place.
