Joint meeting of NAS of Ukraine Presidium and Russian Academy of Science

During he Days of Education and Science of Ukraine in Russian Federation a joint meeting of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NAS) and the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), chaired by the President of NAS of Ukraine Boris Paton and RAS President Yuri Osipov was held in Moscow on June 14th - press service of NTUU "KPI".

Michael Zgurovsky - rector of NTU "KPI", academician of NAS of Ukraine took part in the meeting as a member of the Presidium of NAS of Ukraine.

Representatives of scientific elite of two countries listened to the scientific reports of Dmitry Grodzinsky (academician of NAS of Ukraine), Leonid Bolshakov (Corresponding Member of RAS), Valeriy Heyets (Academician of NAS of Ukraine), and Vladimir Baranovsky (Corresponding Member of RAS).

Participants of the meeting created two joint resolutions: "On the cooperation between Russian Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and its further development" and "On the Grants awarded by the Russian Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine for outstanding scientific results obtained in the course of joint researches in natural sciences, engineering, humanities and social sciences."

However the most important event of the meeting was the signing of the Agreement on scientific and technical cooperation between the Russian Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and its Protocol.

The purpose of these documents is "creation of a single scientific area of Ukraine and Russian Federation, expansion of cooperation and strengthening of diverse relationships in science, new technologies and innovation, and facilitating the realization of scientific development in areas of mutual interest."

Their main task is to "create favorable conditions for exchange of new ideas and information, joint research on mutually beneficial conditions within the agreed priority areas and programs."

The documents not only outline areas of cooperation, but also instruments of such cooperation.

The conditions of scientific exchanges, the order of research and travel funding for employees is approved, and a quota for scientific exchanges is set - 280 man/days on each side.

The agreement will be valid for five years. But its last article states that the term of its validity will be prolonged automatically, unless one of the sides of the agreement will express the desire to cancel the agreement within six months before the end of five years period.
